There are two main types of host providers. They are called the have and the have-nots. Hosting companies are not just parking garages for your domains. They have many options and tools that you can utilize. Some host providers install and run them for you and others have nothing and you need to install them yourself. |

When it comes to web hosting, the quality of the bandwidth is as important (if not more important) than the hardware your site runs on. That's because even with the fastest web server, your site will come to a crawl if it's connected to poor quality bandwidth. |

The matter of choosing between the operating system (OS) running the web server hosting your web site as old as the web hosting business. The OS controls all the functions of the web server hosting your site, so it comes naturally to pay special attention when choosing one over another. But what are really the options you have?

Over the last seven years, I've bought website hosting from several different companies. I noticed that the majority of webhosts make the mistake of thinking they are in the webhosting business. They only offer website hosting and, maybe domain name registration. As a marketer, I see huge missed opportunities to make more profits. |

There is a buzz in the online community about a technology that empowers the average computer user with the ability to create and maintain their very own web presence. In the past, individuals who took interest in having and operating their own websites were burdened with the task of learning HTML, DHTML, and other web-based technologies such as JavaScript and CSS. The only alternative to this was, unfortunately, to pocket the expenses and costs required to pay a web developer to build and maintain it for them. |

Sitemaps are without doubt one of the most often ignored and undervalued aspects of search engine optimization. Recently, a friend of mine bought a new car. Buying a car can be extremely stressful with an enormous array of important numbers, specifications and comparative measurements to consider before purchase. Now I was raised in the downtown core of Toronto that is a megalopolis stretching around the northwestern quarter of Lake Ontario. Growing up with a highly efficient public transit system and a decidedly urban lifestyle, I never even considered the need for a vehicle until I was in my mid 20's. Ten years later I am still at the “this moves me where?” stage in my relationship with vehicles. Taking me to a car-dealership is sort of like asking another city-kid which mushrooms are safe to eat in the forest. “Hey that one looks cool...” Things can get pretty Mickey Mouse from here eh? |

I had a few interesting conversations about shopping carts last week. (Note to Yahoo, anyone who has two interesting conversations about shopping carts in the same seven-day period needs better online entertainment options. Please step up the pace.) Actually, shopping carts are fairly interesting, if only because they are so fundamentally important. With the rise in consumer acceptance of e-commerce comes a tidal wave of merchant awareness and in a massive page-by-page process, shopping carts have rapidly expanded the size of the web and will continue to do so until a better way comes along to sell stuff. They are also expanding the sizes of search engine databases with mixed results. Shopping carts are either fast moving or fairly static. In some cases, product listings can change faster than Yahoo updates its cache of the page those products were listed on. There are a number of issues that can be associated with these problems and since each website is unique, general rules tend to be applied as solutions until work-arounds are devised or purchased. |

Have you ever typed in a domain name and came to what looks like a default page of a domain name registrar that reads, "http://www.thedomainyoutyped.com is under construction". If you are considering moving a page on your web site into another folder or simply renaming it; there's a couple of important points to consider. The most important issue is that if the page you are moving or renaming has a good search engine ranking already, or may have been bookmarked by your visitors; all your hard work could be lost. |

Since the quality and reliability of the hosting company you choose can make or break your eBusiness, it is important to find a hosting company that is rock solid. Your site must load quickly. Statistics show that the average Web Surfer will only wait about 20 seconds before they click away to another site. If your web host’s load time and connectivity are not fast and reliable, your competition is only a click away. Another important factor is Support. With so many unqualified web hosting resellers out there, if your site goes down there may be no one to call on to fix the problem. |
